This single-fronted period weatherboard presents modestly and rewards a closer look. Behind the white picket fence sit a bullnose veranda, fretwork detailing and plantation shutters, with red brick paving running past the driveway to the porch. What follows is a home that has kept its period character intact while opening up where it counts, suiting young families, professionals and downsizers in equal measure.
Inside, a hallway lined with warm plank flooring and ornate cornices sets a calm, unhurried tone, a decorative ceiling rose overhead, drawing you past robed bedrooms and a study that could just as easily become a nursery, a reading room or somewhere to shut the door on the working day. The hallway then steps down and the house changes character entirely, opening into a broad kitchen, dining and living domain where a skylight and highlight windows keep sunlight moving through from morning to late afternoon. French doors open the living zone straight onto the garden. Beyond them a decked alfresco waits for long lunches, a paved patio catches the northern sun, and a cubby sits in the back corner for whoever claims it first.
Ducted floor heating and split system air conditioning cover the seasons, while the kitchen is appointed with a Glem freestanding oven and gas cooktop, Haier dishwasher, subway tile splashback, pantry and generous cabinetry. Each bedroom is fitted with plantation shutters, a ceiling fan and built-in robes. A skylit bathroom with integrated laundry, a garden shed and off-street parking round out the package.
Surrey Hills Shopping Centre and the Union Road village sit a short walk away, home to Coles Local, cafes and specialty shops, with Union Station and the 612 and 766 bus routes handling the commute. The home is zoned for Surrey Hills Primary School, itself only a short walk from the door, with Our Holy Redeemer nearby as well. Canterbury Girls Secondary College is also zoned for the area, a short drive away. And when the weekend calls for a slower pace, the established trees, garden beds and rotunda of Surrey Gardens are just around the corner.
